Independent Legal Referrals
Some Quaerens matters may require independent legal advice or representation beyond the complaint-support work provided by Quaerens.
Where appropriate, Quaerens may refer a matter to GSP Law, an independent firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Referral is not automatic acceptance
If Quaerens considers a matter suitable for referral, Quaerens will notify the client directly by email or in writing before the referral takes place.
Following referral, GSP Law carries out its own onboarding and acceptance process. This may include:
- identity verification;
- Know Your Customer (KYC) checks;
- anti-money-laundering checks;
- conflict checks;
- additional information or documentation;
- acceptance of GSP Law's own terms of engagement.
GSP Law independently decides whether it can accept a matter. A referral by Quaerens does not guarantee that GSP Law will accept the case.
Until the client has been notified about a specific referral and GSP Law has completed its required acceptance/onboarding process, the client should not assume that GSP Law is acting for them or that a solicitor-client relationship exists.
If your matter remains with Quaerens and you have not been notified of a legal referral, please continue to communicate directly with Quaerens regarding your case.
How a legal referral works
Quaerens identifies a possible need for legal review
Where a matter reaches a stage where independent legal advice or representation may be appropriate, Quaerens may consider it for referral.
Quaerens notifies you
We will tell you directly if your particular matter is being referred for consideration.
Solicitor onboarding
The solicitor carries out its own onboarding, identity, KYC, conflict and other required checks.
Independent acceptance decision
The solicitor independently decides whether it can accept the matter.
Legal instruction
Only after acceptance and completion of the solicitor's required onboarding/terms does the solicitor-client relationship begin.
GSP Law
GSP Law is an independent firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
SRA ID: 598379. This authorisation applies to GSP Law, not Quaerens. Quaerens is not a law firm.
If Quaerens has not notified you that your matter has been referred, continue to contact Quaerens about your case.
A proposed referral does not itself authorise the transfer of your personal information or case file. Any proposed referral must follow the applicable privacy information, client authority and data-handling requirements.
